III. Activities related to Child Protection

  • Child Protection Risk Assessment with Partners of GOAL-India:

GOAL-India proposes to mainstream Child Protection in every sphere along with its partner organizations. As a part of it, a Child Protection Risk Self-Assessment Tool was developed that was administered with different levels of the staff of each of the partner organizations to assess the level of risk the children are associate directly. Community Action Society (CAS) was entrusted with the responsibility to carry out the Risk Assessment among 12 partners of GOAL- India, West Bengal.

  • Risk and Need Assessment in Eight Government Managed Child Care Institution in West Bengal

CAS in collaboration with Global Institute of Social Sciences conducted a Risk Assessment and Need Assessment Study in eight Governments managed Child Care Institutions (CCI) in various districts of West Bengal mainly in North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, Dakshin Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar.

  • The Need Assessment on Positive and Non Violent Discipline

non-violentThe Need Assessment on Positive and Non Violent Discipline aided consolidation of current understanding and practice of disciplinary measures for children. It involved analysing perceptions, knowledge and experiences of both CCI personnel, representatives of external service providers and children on these aspects.

  • Development of Child Protection Policy

CAS had also facilitated some NGOs like CLPOA, Durbar Mahila Samannyay Committee and Children’ Rights Development Service to develop their Child Protection Policy. The Experts from Community Action Society (CAS) trained the concerned staffs on Child Protection Policy, which are supported by GOAL.

State Level Consultation on Positive Parenting and Non Violent Discipline in Schools and Home Situation

State level Consultation on Positive Parenting and Non Violent Discipline in Schools and Home Situation was organised in Kolkata and Siliguri on 8th and 11th March 2013 respectively.

Kolkata: The consultation was organised by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) with support from Global Institute of Social Sciences along with the Sarva Siksha Mission, Kolkata with 95 participants including Governmnent Education functionaries like Chairman DPSC, DPO-SSM, DI of primary and secondary schools, Heads of primary and secondary schools and school representatives from seven districts. Moreover, suggestions for continued engagement on the critical themes of positive parenting and non violent disciplining also emerged.

Siliguri: The State Level Consultation on Positive Parenting and Non Violent Discipline in Schools and Home Situations was organised by the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) with support from the Global Institute of Social Sciences (GISS) on March 11, 2013 in Siliguri along with Sarva Sikhsha Mission, Siliguri in coordinating the six districts of North Bengal. The consultation drew 72 participants including government education functionaries and school representatives from those six districts. Distinguished speakers shared key concepts through presentations which were followed by interactive sessions.
