National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had organized a meeting in Taj Bengal on 18th February 2011 for organizing a Public Hearings on Violation of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 in Kolkata. It was decided that the Public Hearing will be organized by the NGOS and INGOs of West Bengal under the banner of NCPCR. In this meeting seven NGOs and INGOs were present, and it was resolved that these organizations, forming a Civil Society Network will undertake the initiative under NCPCR. Kolkata Konsultants as one of the members of the network, took a leading role in organizing the Public Hearings. Later on near about 50 NGOs of West Bengal from different districts, joined to the Civil Society Network to lodge cases and creating awareness among teachers, Government officials and general public. The public hearing was held on 20th and 21st October, 2011 in Town Hall, Kolkata on the Violation of Right to Education Act 2009 and on Child Trafficking in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal. After the event a Review meeting on Public Hearing was held on 4th November 2011, in the Office of CRY-Child Rights and YOU, It was decided that the Civil Society Network on Child Rights will continue and strengthen their effort in all districts of West Bengal with specific objectives and activities to ensure effective implementation of RTE Act 2009 and other Child Rights Acts. These initiatives are still continuing and Kolkata Konsultants is taking a pivotal role to make the Civil Society Network active.
